Compared to the other areas of South Asia, the conversion of the Maldives to Islam happened relatively late. Arab Traders had converted populations in the Malabar Coast since the 7th century, and Muhammad Bin Qāsim had converted large swathes of Sindh to Islam at about the same time. The Maldives remained a Buddhist kingdom for another five hundred years after the conversion of Malabar Coast and Sindh – perhaps as the south-westernmost Buddhist country. Arabic became the prime language of administration (instead of the Persian and Urdu), and the Maliki school of jurisprudence was introduced, both hinting at direct contacts with the core of the Arab world.
The giraffe genome is around billion base pairs in length compared to the billion base pairs of the okapi. Of the proteins in giraffe and okapi genes, % are identical. The two species are equally distantly related to cattle, suggesting the giraffe's unique characteristics are not because of faster evolution. The divergence of giraffe and okapi lineages dates to around mya. A small group of regulatory genes in the giraffe appear to be responsible for the animal's stature and associated circulatory adaptations.
Low levels of the sex hormones estrogen and testosterone both negatively affect a man's libido and ability to have erections, notes WebMD. The male body converts some of the testosterone it produces into estrogen, so falling testosterone levels contribute to low estrogen. Healthy male adults have higher estrogen levels than menopausal women, says The New York Times. A New England Journal of Medicine study found that male sexual symptoms such as low libido and erectile dysfunction were most pronounced in men with a combination of low testosterone and low estrogen, reports the Los Angeles Times.
